Rhythmical body movements provide pleasure
for the dancers with bonuses including eye contact, body contact, smiling
and laughing, body language, and the budding of romance.
Early Rock and Roll was fun music for fun and dancing and was quickly followed by discos and the first "singles bars." As the divorce rate soared in the 70s and 80s, creative singles resurrected old line dances and invented new ones to accommodate the growing singles populace. Single dancers glided, hopped, and grapevined across the dance floor in "line" dances or joined arms for the Cotton-Eyed Joe. Line dances still flourish today. They allow single dancers to join the fun without a partner and without equal numbers of men and women. |

Social dancing combines the romance of the
ballroom dance, the friendliness of the square dance, the informality of
the country and western dance, and the wild abandon of the "bar"
scene to provide meeting opportunities for singles everywhere.
If you don't dance, there are ample places to learn in any metroplex--from "free" lessons at night clubs to lessons from singles groups to private lessons. Observe one note of caution when taking private dance lessons: If a company will not quote prices on the phone, you will probably be pressured to sign a high-priced contract when you show up for your "free" lesson.
