Singles Rarely Meet by Chance |

Singles and marriage: Any single who leaves love to chance is looking at a good opportunity to be forever single. More about singles and marriage:

You want to find a significant other You're ready to settle down You know the clock is ticking What are you doing to help yourself here, buddy? "No problem," you declare. "I know my friend Chance will come through for me sooner or later." What are the odds that Chance can find your significant other? Well, let's look at some figures and then you be the judge here. Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, known as the divorce capital of the world, is about 44% single. I live and date in DFW so I will use it as an example. A little over 40% of the adult population is single nationally, although that can known as slightly higher or lower depending on the area. Back to DFW as 44% single. "Hmmm," you say. "I like those odds: 44%." There is only one problem here. A lot of those singles are attached. In fact, only about 15-16% of the singles' population is looking for a significant other at any one time. "Well," you concede, " That's not as good as 44%, but still, 16%--those odds are not too bad." Wait a minute here. Wouldn't you want someone of the opposite sex? "Yes, of course." Assuming half of that group is the opposite sex, now you are down to 8%. "Oh." Don't forget: only about 44% of the population is single. This knocks you down a little more. In fact, now you are down to 3.5%. What else do you want in a mate? "Well, I want someone who is the right height and weight. I also want them to share some of my interests. And I have some very particular ideas about children, too. That is very important. Plus I found out it is better to marry within your religion and culture." Hey, good luck, buddy. Are you looking for chemistry, too? "Well, of course I am looking for chemistry. That goes without saying." What about age? There are more single people in their 20s than any other age. Less singles in their 30s, even less in their 40s, etc. Now what do you think? "Well, to tell you the truth, I'm beginning to get a little worried." Then chew on this: You are only 1/2 of the equation here. Once you find the perfect person for you, you have to fit his/her specifications, too. "Wow, never thought about that." Now you know why you can't leave love to Chance. There are lots of ways to meet singles in any metropolitan area, to say nothing of the Internet. If you are not using all of them, you are leaving love to your friend Chance. Chance is a good guy, but the odds are against him! |
