Singles can change self-esteem by the way they think. Self-esteem is the way you see yourself. You are a worthy person. |

Self-esteem is part of us all. Self-esteem is the way you see and think of yourself. You can change your self-esteem by changing the way you think about you. You are worthy. You deserve self-esteem. |
There is an exercise you can do to start the road to better self-esteem. Take a minute to complete the following list about you. Fill-in your strengths and weaknesses. Leave the Perception and List columns blank for now. You can come back to them later. That's right, stop and do it now! |

My Strengths |
My Weaknesses |
Perceptions |
| Which did you find easiest to identify?
Did you list an equal number of each? SOLO provided the same number of spaces. If you are like many singles, you are more aware of your faults than your positive qualities. We often apply a negative label to ourselves that a more objective person would see with a different perception. Therefore, your negative characteristics can be evaluated differently when you change your perspective. For example, some people describe themselves as sloppy or lazy. A different perspective for sloppy is disorganized; lazy becomes laid-back or relaxed. Loud can be enthusiastic or vocal. How about the people who know you best. Would they evaluate some of your traits differently? Now return to your list of personal strengths and weaknesses to fill-in the perception column with more accepting words to describe your weaknesses. This does not mean that you are being self-deceptive or that you don't have traits that need to be changed. But it is very important to allow yourself to feel better by learning to be less critical of your traits. Write your new descriptions in the blank column beside weakness. |
