Singles can wake up and stop procrastinating in three steps. Yet singles who conquer procrastination still work at their new ways of non-procrastinating.

Singles: Wake up and Beat Procrastination

By DH Owens

Who procrastinates? We all do to some extent. We all need to conquer procrastination in some realm of our actions. If for no other reason than procrastination often hurts our self-confidence and self-esteem.

First, let go of the old.

Roy Eugene Davis writes in The Book of Life writes, "You can not be the newly awakened person you will be, and at the same time be the old-personality person you formerly were."

In other words, you have to let go of your old personality and ways of doing things, sometimes even the "old" people in your life, to have a new self.

Second, you need to change the way you act.

According to David Burns, M.D.,  people are "doers."  Consequently, you can substantially change the way you feel by changing the way you act.

Of course, when you are in a blue mood, you don't feel like doing much.  Because  you  accomplish so little, you  feel worse and worse.

You feel worse because:

1. You cut yourself off from normal sources of pleasure.

2. Your  lack  of  activity  aggravates  your  "internal  self-criticism."

Most people feel better immediately if they do anything at all.

Third, work at remaining the "new you!"

This is not easy to do. It usually requires as much effort to remain the "new" you as it did to change in the first place.

Seek some support, both with friends or family and with the other choices you make.

Davis writes, "The majority of the people who implement a weight loss program will gain weight again a few  weeks or months after completing the program. The average New Year's resolution is forgotten within the first two months. At least 75 percent of persons for whom a stress management program is prescribed, will neglect their routines once they have experienced a comfortable degree of relief."

Remind yourself that this change in your life was your intention then and remains your intention now.

Davis continues, "It is not that we cannot accomplish our major purposes. If we are not doing so, it is only because we have not chosen them with definiteness of intention and followed through with supportive actions."
