Grab a sheet of paper or print out this page.  Answer the following questions as completely and specifically as possible.

Then go back and try to summarize each answer in one to three words.

Note that summary on the back of the page, in your journal,  or on index cards for future reference.

Keep your summary. You can refer back to it during your entire dating process.

It will be particularly useful in writing singles' ads. But... your list will really prove its value when chemistry broadsides you.

It is when chemistry is at its strongest that our brain is at its weakest. When the sparks fly, look back at your summary to see if this steamy  relationship fills your goals as well as your senses.

• What are my best character qualities?
• What sets me apart from others?
• What do others say are my strong points?
• How do I spend my free time?
• What are my passions--the things I care about passionately?
• What physical features do I like best about myself?
• Am I very tall, short, overweight?
• Do I smoke?
• What is my age, race, marital status, "children" status?
• What do I have to offer someone else?

HIM/HER

• What type of personality do I seek?
• What do I value most in mate/lover?
• What age range is important?
• What is important about occupation/profession/education?
• What is important about physical features? Don't dwell on physical features, though, because you often change your mind there.
• Am I seeking friends, a long-term relationship, or both?
• Is smoking acceptable?
• What about children?
