Personal Matchmaking Is Always, and ONLY, Local...

We have calls from singles all over the world asking if we have offices in their city. Unfortunately, the answer is always, "no."

Personal matchmaking is just that: personal. It is a combination of the intuition and experience of the persona of the matchmaker. Therefore, despite what anyone might tell you, it can't be wrapped up in a pretty franchise agreement and sold. 

How does someone learn to be a personal matchmaker?

First, there must be a real desire to help people find their special person.

Second, there must be some feeling or intuition about these things. I'm not saying a personal matchmaker is psychic. They are certainly not that. The intuition is developed over a period of time. And it is developed by the experience of actually being a personal matchmaker, not from reading a book or taking a course, although a psychology background is helpful.

Third, a personal matchmaker must actually interview and get to know the persons they are matching. That is why it is important that the personal matchmaker interview and match BOTH parties. You can't possibly have but one matchmaker in a company to be effective.

Fourth, a personal matchmaker has to know there are limitations to his/her trade. A few people, for personal reasons of their own, simply can not be matched. Some of those reasons:

1. They are really not capable of a long-term relationship,

2. They are victims of the greener grass on the other side of the fence.

3. They are afraid if they settle down with this almost perfect person, they might miss someone even better.

4. They keep searching incessantly for that perfect person and they never find him/her.

5. They have a personal feeling of entitlement or superiority, or some passion, which keeps them from accepting someone else.

Hopefully, most of these people will be recognized in the interview. Some, however, will only be recognized over time. So, a good personal matchmaker has to know when to quit trying for the sake of the other singles in the group.

The best way to learn personal matchmaking is to be taught by another personal matchmaker. This is how the Connections matchmaker learned. And it works!!
